American Heart Association Heart Walk
Formed in 1924, the American Heart Association coalesced out of smaller precursor groups in an effort to share findings regarding cardiology. Remaining small in scale until the 1940’s when the Procter & Gamble Company selected it as one of their supported charities the American Heart Association began to receive ever-increasing attention. Over the next fifty years, the AHA continued to grow and campaign for greater understanding and awareness in cardiovascular health. In more recent times the AHA has provided research into more effective methods for CPR. Their advocacy has also led to additional FDA oversight into the tobacco industry, a leading contributor to heart disease. Additionally, the AHA is the leading funder of heart disease and stroke research outside of the federal government with an investment of more than $3.5 billion.[i]
The funding necessary to maintain this research is generated in part by donations and fundraising events, like the upcoming American Heart Association’s Heart Walk. For the last two years, Burger Physical Therapy has been proud to support the AHA heart walk with multiple clinics forming teams with fun and imaginative names like the Citrus Hearts or the Burger Heart Beats! Burger has managed to raise $3000 to help the AHA and hopes to increase this amount during this year’s heart walk!
